This primary school assembly story follows Mrs Fuss the dinner lady on the day the snow comes. When she wakes to see Sylvan Crescent blanketed in white, her thoughts jump immediately to how the children of the school she works at are going to keep safe.

In her frenzied desire to plan, prepare, and fuss for the school she overlooks the joy the snowfall brings and forgets that the children deserve to have fun - moreover, so does she. It is only when she hears the first sounds of children giggling and frolicking in the snow that she realises that they are happy. She feels nostalgia for her own childhood, and it is only then that she permits any thoughts of gritting, snowballing bans and orders to stay inside all day to leave her brain.

With help from Mr Dunn and the Headteacher, Mrs Fuss realises that the children can stay safe and have fun outside - with her help too. She has covered all bases in terms of safety and she is congratulated for this, her thoughtfulness and care and for trying her best always.

This story about adult's regard for safety comes from More Brilliant Assembly Stories, written by Elizabeth Sach and published by Brilliant Publications.

This primary school assembly story follows Mrs Fuss the dinner lady on the day the snow comes. This tale will help children to understand that when people are being sensible and trying to keep them safe, they are doing so because they care. It is good for them to recognise that there is always a balance to be had between fun and safety and that both are conducive to a happy, healthy childhood. Listeners can also perceive that if you always try your best like Mrs Fuss and try to be a kind and caring person, others will always appreciate you.
