We knew it was dangerous

When they said most children with Covid-19 have only mild symptoms, they forgot an important side-effect.

Data gathered from across the UK has shown that fewer children become sick as a result of Covid-19 than is the case with adults.

What’s more, the data shows that most children with Covid-19 have mild symptoms or have no symptoms at all. Some, it is true, can become severely ill, but the percentage when compared to adults is small.

However, it now seems that a second problem has emerged.

A study of 50,000 pupils across England has shown that while very few have suffered from covid infection, a much larger number now urgently need extra help with language skills.

What is worse is that the poor speech development that has been observed among some children is quite likely to be having long-term effects on all their learning, both in school and at home.

In response to this situation we have available “Speaking and Listening Activities for the Early Years,” and we have made some of the material from this resource available for free on the internet.

The published volume contains 70 practical activities for developing speaking and listening skills in children aged 2–5 years old.

To see the approach – and indeed to try it for yourself without any cost or obligation, we have put four parts of this book online for you to read and use with activities for 2-3 year olds and for 4-5 year olds.

These complete lessons are available on the book’s page on our website (see below). The ‘Try before you buy’ activities can be downloaded and copied for free from there.  The complete volume of 70 detailed practical activities for developing speaking and listening skills is also described on the website in more depth.
