Help KS1 pupils read and comprehend fiction and poetry

Introduce pupils to all the different KS1 question types

By the end of Year 2, children are expected to have many skills linked to literature.

It is essential that children become familiar with the range of genres within classic and contemporary children’s literature from both the UK and other countries.

Our book, Developing Reading Comprehension Skills Year 2: Fiction and Poetry, offers age-appropriate, exciting, fiction and poetry of different types to help children gain confidence in dealing with different genres of writing.

The gentle introduction to more formal comprehension has 20 engaging fiction texts and poems which will encourage a love of reading.

For each text the question sheets systematically teach the skills needed to tackle the KS1 question types.

Practice is the ideal way to develop children’s reading comprehension skills and foster a love of reading.

Pupils will develop the skills needed to read and comprehend fiction and poetry in KS1. They will gain an understanding of all the Key Stage 1 reading content domains: retrieval, inference, vocabulary, sequencing and prediction.
