Description
The tasks provide genuine opportunities to use and apply language and numeracy skills so are ideal for setting as English or maths homework. Some have links to other subjects, including science and technology, art and design and PSHE.
Giles Hughes, the author, has spent months of research, trialling the ideas in a number of Year 5 and Year 6 classrooms. All the activities have been specifically designed to stimulate children’s imaginations and bring out the creative element in every child, whilst providing genuine opportunities to practise essential skills.
Even the most recalcitrant children will be keen to rise to the challenge of these homework tasks. Ideas include:
- Personal Rain Catcher
- Secret Codes!
- Living on an Island
- Message in a Bottle
- Tessellating Shapes
- Calculator Fun!
- Mars Landing
